Question by : Can you do a criminal back ground check on someone without theyre permission?
Long story short, my father was in prison for 8years for something i was never told about. I NEED to know. Idk why but i feel like they are hiding something from me.

Yes you may, court records are open to the public (unless sealed by a judge for good cause) and you may do a criminal background check.

Yes, unfortunately you can. I think that this country is way too big brother…and it’s a invasion of privacy!

Yes, you can. You will need to know where he was living at the time he was arrested and convicted. You can go to that state’s website and look under criminal records. They will have a section to get those records, unless he finished his sentence, and as part of it, the records were removed. There is a fee, but the records are public. You can call your local sheriff’s department too, to get help if he was arrested in that same state. If your father is a changed man, he wants to put this all behind him, not have it rubbed in his face by the way. So when you find out, it would not be a good idea to confront him about it. (Unless he is still doing the same behavior).
