Question by Alex: How do I apply to be one of the people who checks and stamps passports and other documents at airports?
I was wondering what I would need to do to be in this line of work. I have searched online for applications but the government job application websites are confusing. Anyone have any tips for me?

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is an agency organized under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The CBP is responsible for safeguarding the border and inspecting individuals and cargo moving in and out of the country. Several different career positions exist within the agency. Border Patrol Agents are tasked with monitoring large border areas for illegal activity. Air and Marine Interdiction Agents stop illegal activity using aircraft and boats. Customs and Border Patrol Officers are perhaps the most visible personnel within CBP. These officers work at major air- and seaports to screen passengers and luggage.

Register for the Customs and Border Protection written test at the agency’s human resources website. Fill in the requested personal information. A valid social security number is required to verify U.S. citizenship.

Print the admission notice for the written test. This paper includes important information, including the scheduled date of the test and an admission ticket. Review the location of the test, which is offered in various locations throughout the country.

Prepare for the written test. Download the candidate study guide from the Customs and Border Protection career website and review it carefully. Understand that the five-hour test is very in-depth and competitive. Study extensively before the test date.

Attend the written test on the assigned day. Bring a government issued photo identification card and the printed admission notice. Check your e-mail account during the next four to six weeks and monitor for an official Notice of Results (NOR) from the test.

Check your physical mailing address for a letter detailing the Video Based Test (VBT). This letter will list an assigned date for an interactive recorded test and a Structured Interview (SI), which last between 30 and 45 minutes each. Attend the assigned location on the testing day and respond to the scenarios and questions in a professional manner.

Schedule convenient dates for the required drug test, medical examination, fitness test and background investigation. Complete these required examinations as soon as possible. Contact the nearest Customs and Border Patrol testing center to make arrangements for each test.

Accept an employment offer if it is given. Relocate to one of the cities with a Customers and Border Protection agency office if required. If an employment offer is not given, candidates remain in the pipeline for future openings.

I met a guy thru online personals. He says he’s a private pilot AND that he was in the US Marine Reserves or Guard and flew COBRA helicopters. I am starting to think maybe he’s lying, but I don’t know. Is there a site with FAA or other that at least lists names and if possible addresses for NY pilot? Thank you very much.

Just go to FAA on the internet and follow the instructions. Also, you can call the FAA – look it up in the phone book under US Government.

If you’re asking about the “Permit to Purchase,” it’s free. You just have to pass the background check that your local law enforcement will perform, and wait about 10 days to get it. It’s current for one year after date of issue. “After” your permit has been issued there is no waiting period of any kind…More on this later…

If you get a Carry Permit, it takes the place of a Permit to Purchase.

When you buy a handgun or “semiautomatic military-style assault weapon” from an FFL dealer in MN, you must present your Permit to Purchase to the FFL dealer (gun shop) and they will also phone in to the standard National Instant Criminal Background Check System. The NICS check is also free of charge.

If you ordered a firearm online to ship to a dealer for “FFL transfer” to you, they will charge you. This is for their time

Check out your local library for books on writing grants and proposals. Many of them will include resources. You can also check with the SBA, Small Business Administration, for information on grants. They are a governmental agency that will help you the legitimate way.

Be wary of any dating service, as many of them are run by porn affiliates trying to sign you up to a service. They will bait you in with pretty girls looking for a “relationship”. Then next thing you know your they are asking you to shell out your hard earned cash to try and meet one of these girls.

Even online sites like Plenty of Fish have a crap load of men posing as women, trying to bait you into a scam. If you appear really sincere, these scammers will ignore you and sap your self confidence (because you feel like a real person is rejecting you).

Its scary out there. Honestly give Eharmony a try. I’ve never used them, but if I’m ever looking for a date, without actually going out and finding one, I would probably try them. There screening process seems sincere, and they come right out as a paid service. I’m not saying they are legit however, just that I’ve tried the others, and they are a waste.

I have met some successful dates through these sites, but as I said, you have to weed through the scammers, and you can never get that time back right?
I’m not sure what kind of service your in need of, but your right about online services. I know people who have worked for places like ashley madison, etc. Some of the girls would pose as 5 or 10 different people and chat with you until they could get you to buy something. That kind of chatting is a waste of time for the poor bloke trying to score a date.

I’m not a fan of online dating services obviously. Hope this helps!

Not all of the states are the same. Some are more restrictive than others. Maryland, for example, has a waiting period for handguns on top of all the paperwork. Long guns and shotguns seem to be less complicated. The single matter that is common with all the states is ATF Form 4473, a series of questions that you have to answer when you buy or receive a firearm from another individual.

You would save yourself a lot of time and headache if you went to a gun store and asked them your questions. There may be local laws on top of the federal and state laws, and the holder of the FFL will keep you legal and out of trouble.

i have read that you could background check yourself? I am curious about 11 years ago i was arrested for shoplifting, i was sent to the police station, but wasnt fingerprinted, or went to jail, or was charged by conviction. I was let go when one of my parents chain.
I was wondering if there was a charge in there somewhere.
Anyone know how to do a check on themselves? do you have to go to courts to do it.
besides paying online sites, is there anyway to do it for free?
does that only work for traffic related incidents or non-vehicular related crimes

Depends….what kind? criminal? employment? I’ve seen sites online that do it for a fee. Here in L.A, I just go to DMV and get a print out. the printout shows how many times you were charged and/or convicted of crimes along with dates. how many times you Failed T o Appear in court, warrants etc.
